Spraggy had to leave early so it was imperative to win the toss, field first, allowing him to bat and depart by 7pm...........what could be more simple. Spraggy was given that task.............coin in air, tails called ( now i always call heads!!) and yep we were invited to bat!!!

It hadn't escaped the skippers notice that the reliable batting stopped at 5!! So a solid start was imperative from Heavs. He looked solid until the third over ( thanks partner!! ) and so distraught was the skipper he followed in the 4th over. Wear were 9 for 2, effectively 9 for 7, bearing mind the tail!!!

The skipper then learnt the the opening bowler Kevin Kelly was a regular First Teamer, but "due to work commitments" had to play at home. Seem to remember a certain Mr Tansley having to play against us a few years back in a crucial relegation match as he was injured. He staged a remarkable recovery to take 6 or 7 wickets. Deja Vue!!!!

So, to put it mildly we were stuffed, 200 run target was a mile off in the distance and the thought of watching the Firsts by 5pm had crossed my mind.

Yea of little faith................once again the real true spirit of CWCC came through.

Firstly number 3 Richard Bates and Gary Spragg had to take on Kelly and the new ball ( although the majority of shine had been removed by Heavs and the Skip). Their partnership of 100 was truly brilliant and they occupied the crease until the 25th over. In my opinion the best partnership of the season so far. We had a basis. Ree departed on 30 and then Spraggy was out on 61 with 1 six and 11 fours.

Phil Irish then started to build his innings, with the knowledge of more rabbits around him than seen in Watership Down. Would he run out of partners before he could get going. Oh yea of little faith again!!!!

Partners came and stayed with him, Richard Martin (10) put on 26, Adam Sussex (4) put on 11 ( all counts!!), Geraint Heath (14), put on 58 and finally Adam Brook ( 9) took the score to 226 for 8 at tea. In the meantime Slow had hit 13 fours in a vintage 71 not out.....all dedicated to Gramps Irish on his birthday!!

See the half team team talk was simple......was a brilliant position the batsmen had put us in, and we just could not waste all that effort. Bowl tight, field well and support each other..............lets do it!!!!

Brooky again came charging in and soon dismissed their opener with Slow taking a driving catch behind the stumps. Skipping Lapping took a swipe at every ball from Brooky and wildly missed on every occasion. The skippers suggestion of the slower ball worked a treat as the ball was lofted high and high. Heavs did a brilliant job of running in the opposite direction leaving Slow to take it with the gloves. Bobby Adams had a brilliant opening spell and completely tied up the other opener. In the end he surrendered by walking in front of his stumps....his pain was over.

Honiton were 35 for 3, but Kelly and Pulman were at the wicket. They took the score to 114 for 3 off 23 over's, again finely balanced, but with the knowledge of one more wicket we would nearly be there. Kelly clipped the ball of his legs as G man was running in from Square Leg to cut off the single. To his amazement to ball was headed straight towards his face at some pace, a quick juggle and it was swallowed up!! Come on Wear!!

The introduction of Richard Bates saw the score go from 114 for 4 to 144 all out as he took 4 for 16 off 4 over's, and Spraggy ended up with 3 for 40 off 8 over's and just had time to witness the win before he had to disappear. Slow capped a brilliant performance with four catches behind the stumps.

So what a day. Selection had been a nightmare, lost the toss, 9 for 2, first team ringer playing and it all ended up with 20 points!!! Oh and another score over 200 for the tenth time this season!!

There are many times when you are left thinking is skippering worth all the grief..........the attitude from all ten players throughout the game, proved that, yes it is. So thanks to you all and i mean everyone, for all your efforts. It really proved what depth we have in the CWCC set up at the moment.

CHAMPAGNE MOMENT OF THE DAY

Well seeing the kids take down the tent on their own was great!!

Umm, seeing Brooky think and bowling the slower ball at the skippers suggestion.....................sadly this was negated by the skippers decision of moving Wacker from 1st slip to a wider slip, only to see the next ball flew where Phil was previously standing.

The partnership of Ree and Spraggy, against Kelly and new ball was a possibility.

But it has to go to Slow....................for his innings, his performance behind the stumps and then dedicating it all the birthday boy Gramps Pete Irish............................sadly though he will need to be dropped next week to be replaced by the return of Chans....I'll let Spraggy tell him

Honiton Home - 26.7.08

DIAS HAS HONITON IN A SWING

Line Up - Bogue(C),Davey,Griffin,Thompson,Singh,Harkness,Nash,Darke,Pateman,Dias,Langtry

Honiton won toss and elected to bat

Honiton - 111 all out - (37.2overs)

BOWLING FIGURES

 Kav Dias -- 11.2 - 5 - 20 - 4

 Adrian Nash -- 8 - 1 - 39 - 1

 Mark Davey -- 9 - 3 - 24 - 2

 Gurpreet Singh -- 9 - 2 - 21 - 3

BATTING FIGURES

 Mark Davey -- 58*

 Mark Griffin -- 0

 David Thompson -- 9

 Gurpreet Singh -- 33*

After slipping into the bottom three in recent weeks this became a huge game for the Wear. Playing a full home game for the first time since May also provided a welcome boost to the Winslade faithful.

Honiton won the toss and elected to bat – it looked a wise decision with the pitch looking in excellent nick and the sun belting down on the hottest Saturday of the summer so far. Kav Dias built on his recent form to have the Honiton openers scratching ther heads in the early overs. Nashy got the big wicket of the destructive Tansley, well caught by newly registered Pete Darke in the deep. The spin option proved decisive on a good batting strip with Singh (3-21) and Davey (2-24) removing the lions share of the middle order. Kav Dias (4-20) returned to dismiss the tail concluding a great spell for the Welsh Wizard – an excellent signing for the ccub this season.

The Weer troops walked off in jubilant fashion after dismissing the visitors for 111. News got even better as they entered the pavilion to see Jane Darke serving up an absolute feast to claim tea of the season so far (as nominated by resident tea guru Ronnie Partridge)

Despite the first over removal of Griffin Wear steadied the ship with an excellent knock from Davey (58*) assisted by first Thompson (9), then IPL superstar G Singh (33*). An unbroken 81 partnership saw Wear home to claim the first twenty pointer for what has been far too many weeks.

Woodland Fort Away - 19.7.08

BATSMAN FAIL WERE BOWLERS PROSPER

Line Up - Bogue(C),Davey,Griffin,Thompson,Harkness,Irish,Nash,Dias,Langtry,Heath,Smith

Countess Wear won toss and elected to field

Woodland Fort - 149 all out (46overs)

BOWLING FIGURES

 Kav Dias -- 13 - 8 - 20 - 2

 Adrian Nash -- 12 - 4 - 31 - 1

 David Thompson -- 8 - 0 - 42 - 0

 Owen Smith -- 10 - 0 - 38 - 3

 Mark Davey -- 2 - 0 - 7 - 1

Countess Wear - 140 - 8 (46overs)

BATTING FIGURES

 Mark Davey -- 27

 Mark Griffin -- 21

 David Thompson -- 6

 James Bogue -- 6

 Dave Harkness -- 6

 Phil Irish -- 17

 Adrian Nash -- 27

 Kav Dias -- 18*

 Quinn Langtry -- 0

 Geriant Heath -- 1*

Wear bottled the chance to leap a few places in the league and comfortably away from relegation by failing to chase down a low total against Woodland Fort

After electing to field, Wear put the pressure on early with Kav Dias (2-20) and Adrian Nash (1-31) bowling straight through to great effect. The low run rate began to tell as the Fort batsman succumbed to Smith (3-38) and Thompson (3-42) trying to hit out. A great all round performance in the field left Fort on 149, Smith taking the last wicket with the final ball of the 46 overs. The highlight being a rather hungover Geraint Heath taking two superb catches in the deep.

Wear were confident at tea of chasing the total down and got off to a excellent start through Davey (27) and Griffin (21). The loss of 5 key wickets for just 28 runs in 15 overs proved the demise of the batting effort. A selection of poor shots would cost the team dearly. A breezy 27 from Nashy was not enough in the end – as Kav Dias guided the tail home to collect 9 points and a losing draw.

Lustleigh Away - 12.7.08

PROMOTION ALL BUT OVER AFTER LOSS

Line Up - Bogue(C),Blackmore,Thompson,Irish,Harkness,Nash,Drake,Pateman,Paul,Holland,Heath

Lustleigh won toss and elected to field

Countess Wear - 131 all out - (38.4overs)

BATTING FIGURES

James Blackmore -- 25

David Thompson -- 0

James Bogue -- 0

Phil Irish -- 15

Dave Harkness -- 15

Adrian Nash -- 4

Andy Drake -- 39

Neil Pateman -- 10

Swampnil Paul -- 5

Steve Holland -- 0

Geriant Heath --0*

Lustleigh - 134 - 5 (38overs)

BOWLING FIGURES

Steve Holland -- 10 - 3 - 23 - 0

Adrian Nash -- 7 - 1 - 30 - 1

James Blackmore -- 12 - 4 - 23 - 2

David Thompson -- 8 - 0 - 31 - 0

Swampnil Paul -- 2 - 0 - 22 - 1

Lustleigh became the first team to do the double over Wear for 2 seasons by chasing down a modest total on a wet wicket. Lustleigh won a crucial toss and inserted Wear on a damp, green pitch which looked perfect for seam bowling. That proved the case early on with Thompson and Bogue both heading back for a duck in the opening overs. A middle order revival from the returning Andrew Drake (39) was assisted by Slowmo (15) and Harky (15) but not enough to prevent Wear being dismissed for a lowly 131. Lustleigh skipper Paul Foot returned excellent figures of 4-22, the wicket ideally suited to his accurate medium pacers. Despite a gallant effort in the field and a strong bowling performance from James ‘Hotpants’ Blackmore on debut (2-23) the slim total was not enough to prevet Lustleigh winning by 5 wickets with plenty of overs to spare. Number 3 M Wright cracked a chancey but unbeaten 49 to seal victory for the hosts.

Topsham St James Away - 20.7.08

ANOTHER ALL ROUND PERFORMANCE FROM DAVEY GIVE WEAR PROMOTION

Line Up - Irish(C),Davey,Griffin,Holloway,Heaver,Monkley,Harkness(wk),P Darke,Wreyford,Brook,Liddon

Topsham St James won the toss and elected to bat

Topsham St James - 143 all out (34.3overs)

BOWLING FIGURES

Adam Brook -- 1wicket

Adam Monkley -- 3wickets

Mark Davey -- 4wickets

Roger Holloway -- 1wicket

Phil Irish -- 1wicket

Countess Wear - 145 - 1 (28.2overs)

BATTING FIGURES

Mark Davey -- 84*

Mark Griffin -- 21

Roger Holloway -- 29*

After hearing that Plymstock lost last week to South Devon, Wear were full of confidence in this local derby against a young Topsham side. Roger Holloway made his belated return for the rested Adrian Nash.

Having lost the toss, Wear were sent to the field and started very poorly with Topsham taking advantage of Adam Brook's poor bowling. Adam Monkley picked up a wicket in his first over but the score was 36 - 1 off 2overs!!!! and the Topsham opener didn't hold up and continued to smash the ball to all parts of the ground. Monkers picked up a couple more wickets until there number 5 batsman strode to the wicket. He was about 7 years old and ginger so we didn't want him hanging around, but Mini Hopey did very well in his innings of 30 as wickets fell around him. The Topsham opener batted superbly until he was caught by Holloway off the bowling of Brook. After this wicket it was Mark Davey who restricted the Topsham batsman by taking 4 wickets and bowling them out for 143, despite a lethargic effort in the field.

Wear started the chase brightly with the two Marks getting Wear off to a solid start, before Griffin played on to his stumps for 21, with the scoreboard on 72 Wear were half way there, Holloway came to the crease to join Davey who was in magnificent form with the bat aswell as he punished the Topsham bowlers. The game was wrapped up inside 29overs and Wear celebrated promotion.

Promotion was the aim at the start of the season and with 2 league games left, this has been achieved and now we look to go on and win the title and with the side playing so well, it is a real possibility.

MAN OF THE MATCH - Mark Davey - 4wickets and 84runs is a good enough reason

MOMENT OF THE MATCH - Heaver and Monkers tying all of Gerts kit together, when he found out and untied it, we went and did it again. FOOL GERT!

Exmouth Home - 12.7.08

SINGH GIVES WEAR WINNING DRAW IN FANTASTIC COMEBACK

Line Up - Bovey(C),Heaver,Singh,Spragg,Bates,Smith,Channing(wk),Brook,M Wakley,P Wakely,M Jones

Exmouth won the toss and elected to field

Countess Wear - 254 - 8 (46overs)

BATTING FIGURES

 Martin Bovey -- 28

 Jon Heaver -- 7

 Gurpreet Singh -- 102

 Duncan Smith -- 43

 Richard Bates -- 14

 Gary Spragg -- 27*

 Steve Channing -- 6

 Mike Wakely -- 7

 Mike Jones -- 3*

Exmouth - 214 - 7 (46overs)

BOWLING FIGURES

 Adam Brook -- 8 - 0 - 28 - 1

 Gary Spragg -- 13 - 0 - 55 - 0

 Gurpreet Singh -- 11 - 3 - 24 - 5

 Mike Jones -- 7 - 0 - 51 - 0

 Richard Bates -- 3 - 0 - 24 - 0

 Martin Bovey -- 4 - 0 - 22 - 0

Catches - Bovey and Spragg

So the grudge match was here and sweet revenge was sought!!

Wear welcomed back Gerpreet, who unfortunately had to play at home due to work commitments ( shame!! ) and what a pleasure is was to see Mr Wakely back.............er Mike that is!!!! Only joking Phil!!!

Will no confident left in his spinning finger, the skipper lost the customary toss and were inserted to bat. Just as well our batting is our strength this year!!

So openers Bovey and Heaver strode to the wicket. But someone was amiss and the skipper could not put his finger on it..................the last ball thudded into his thigh.........he could not remember putting his thigh pad on............he hadn't!!

Again a reasonable start was seen, until Heavs could not resist a straight one and was bowled on 7. Still nursing his bruise the skipper hit a somewhat fortuitous 28 with some skilful Chinese cuts and edges before being caught. But it was all part of the plan, as the openers sacrificed themselves with the shine gone allowing Gerpreet and Duncan to cause havoc.

They took the score to 118 for 2 as drinks and the basis was set for another promising score. Dunc looked well set before being adjudged LWB for 43 with 3 fours and 3 sixes........it was good to see him back at the crease.

Ree Bates, complete with fitting trousers, kept the scoreboard going with his 14 and the Gerpreet was eventually bowled for 102 ( his 2nd team maiden ton ) with 4 sixes and nine fours with the teams score on 211 for 5. Spraggy saw the score past 250 with 27 not out, supported by Messrs Channing, Wakely Jnr and Mike Jones.

Was the total of 254 enough??? Well with the knowledge of starlet Julian Page playing, possibly not, but with tight bowling from the lads it would be a difficult score to pass.................................

So at 128 for 0 at the drinks interval perhaps it was not too difficult!! . Both their openers did not have to work too hard for their runs. A point raised during the drinks break huddle. We had to bowl straighter, and if we were going to lose, lets make sure we go down fighting.................and Chans final words of "they still got to get the runs, we already had already scored them" the milky bars were on him!!

The skipper brought himself on and a fairly eventful first over!! Heavs nearly ran out Page with a direct hit. With the third umpire still checking the replays, Bovey trapped Wensley LBW on 69 with the score at 155 for 1 with 18 overs remaining.............still a tall order for the Wear to pull it around but the team spirit was raised.

Mike Wakely in the field was inspirational.......probably foolish due to his recent operation, but inspirational!! His influence seemed to lift everyone. Number 3 came and went off Gerpreet and then the crucial wicket of Page as he was given out LBW for 92. Exmouth 190 for 3 off 35 over's.....game on!!

Soon Grepreet had reduced the visitors to 209 for 7 with 4 over's remaining..........could a victory be squeezed out?? Not quite as the visitors hung on for a draw with our star ending up with 5 for 24 off 11 over's. Perhaps if the skipper had given his full allotment!!......................

So what a game. If im honest, it felt like a win as we were in a less than promising situation at half time. But with a brilliant team attitude and some outstanding fielding from Mike Wakely and Brookie geed the lads up. It was very similar to the team spirit against Feniton when the chips were down. We came through again so well down Wear!!!

 CHAMPAGNE MOMENT OF THE DAY
A ton and a five wicket haul from Gman.........possibly

Heavs run out attempt with a direct hit at the bowlers end whilst looking at the wicket keeper ( guess who nominated that!! ) but it was brilliant.

Ree Bates grappling with the pole in Club Roccoc............i would not have believed it, if i hadn't been there to witness it!!

This week though it must go to Dunc for : No 1.......... his 4 tonnes of cream scones for teas ( bliss!! ) and No 2........his announce that Leanne is expecting a Thicklett in February. Well done mate!!! I hope you weren't on top!!!

Uplyme Away - 5.7.08

X RATED DISPLAY SEES MASTER BATES AND WEAR CALLED OFF.

Line Up - Bovey(C),Heaver,Irish,Bates,Channing(wk),Smith,Swampi,Langtry,M Jones,Brook,Spragg

Uplyme won the toss and elected to field

Countess Wear - 61 - 2 (15overs)

Martin Bovey -- 8

Jon Heaver -- 7

Richard Bates -- 10*

Phil Irish -- 33*

With all the rain, phone calls and text messages were flying in the morning. A strong looking Wear side, including debutant Swapnil Paul, were desperate to play ( unless you travel from North Devon!! ). The call came from Uplyme.....they were experiencing a mini heatwave and Thunderbirds were go!!!!

We got there, with rolled up trousers and knotted handkerchiefs ready. The sun has mysteriously disappeared, although the pitch was slightly damp but playable.

Again the toss was vital, with the game being influenced by the weather. Early points were at a premium and Wear had to take to the field first. The skipper had taken counselling during the week regarding his inability of winning any away tosses this season. After a three hour meeting, the conclusion was mind blowing............change the call from heads!!!!!

The confident skipper strolled out to the square, coin in air and proudly announced TAILS.........................bugger ( again!!!!)

The match and already been reduced to 40 over's as the clouds gathered. It was time to introduce the big hitters of Bovey and Heaver to the crease. The skip again got off to his normal 1st over sprint of a boundary as Heavs could only watch and learn.

Heavs then swatted a six, but took one chance to many as he skied a catch to Mid Off. Bovey still traumatised by this dismissal, had a ball that was unplayable ( according to Ree and that was what he said and was good enough for me!! ) and Wear were reduced to 19 for 2.

Then enter Laurel and Hardy ( Messrs Stan Irish and Oliver Bates ). Oli Bates had obviously had great success with his weeks diet, but hadn't changed his whites to fit his new slim like frame. Every run was taken with a massive degree of danger......would Ree get in before his trousers reached his ankles. Adjustments had to be called for, belts were searched for in the changing room. The skippers 32" belt was too small, but a fetching red belt was found and Ree was turned into a Sumo wrestler.

Slow was just getting into gear with five boundaries in his 33 not out, but the time lost by Ree was a schoolboy error. Thus preventing any chance of scoring any batting points in the time available. The rains came and Ree was put out of his batting misery.

Champagne Moment

Had to be Ree for the entertaining experience in the gloom of Uplyme

South Devon Home - 6.7.08

SUGAR AND SPICE WIN EPIC GAME FOR WEAR

Line Up - Davey(C),Irish(wk),Heaver,Monkley,P Darke,Bogue,Nash,Swampi,Brook,Wreyford,Liddon

South Devon won toss and elected to field

Countess Wear - 192 all out (37.2overs)

 Mark Davey -- 14

 Peter Darke -- 62

 James Bogue -- 33

 Jon Heaver -- 2

 Phil Irish -- 18

 Adam Monkley -- 30

 Swampi Paul -- 0

 Adrian Nash -- 2

 Matt Wreyford -- 0

 John Liddon -- 9

 Adam Brook -- 10*

South Devon - 153 all out (33.4overs)

 Adam Brook -- 0wickets

 Adam Monkley -- 3wickets

 Adrian Nash -- 1wicket

 Mark Davey -- 3wickets

 Swampi Paul -- 3wickets

A wet and windy Exeter seemed that play wouldn't be possible and car boot stewards Mark Davey, Phil Irish and Jon Heaver who were all awake at 5AM. Heaver who had no sleep was buzzing for a game, and a lovely sunny spell saw the pitch dry out and manage to get a game in. Having lost the toss, Wear we instantly inserted into bat on what seemed a very bowler friendly wicket.

Starting slowly and losing inspirational skipper and batsman and bowler and fielder Mark Davey for 14, it seemed a struggle for Wear. Some tight bowling from South Devon saw the scoreboard slow down, but some good batting from Pete Darke and James "One Off" Bogue got Wear into a good position. Just before drinks, Bogue was caught for 33 and just after drinks Heaver was caught for 2 and Wear seemed to stumble but Darke who was in superb form picking up vital runs in a key area of the game, but when Darke was stumped for 62 and new signing Swampi Paul was dismissed for 0 on debut, a score of 105 - 3 went to 140 - 6, when Slowmo was dismissed for a quickfire 18, although he thought he scored more, Obviously not!!. Monkers looked in fine form and he and Nash got the scoreboard ticking in the final 10overs but Nash played a loose shot and was out for 2, and Wreyford was out next ball. Monkers and Liddon got things going again, but when Monkers was caught for 30 a 171 didn't seem enough, but Adam Brook strode to the crease and got Wear up to a respectable total of 192.

A cracking tea by Nugget prepared for yesterday's game was tucked into and Wear took the field, full of confidence.

An awful start for Wear saw Brookie smashed to all parts of Winslade after the South Devon openers, who wanted to get back to the slums of Newton Abbot were 50 - 0 off 4overs!. Monkers picked up a wicket and shortly picked up the other opener and Wear were back in the game. Some shocking fielding and lack of enthusiasm saw South Devon pick the pace up and were firmly in the driving seat at 105 - 2 at drinks. A change in the bowling saw Adrian Nash come on and despite a shocking start he picked up a vital wicket to break the partnership. Wear were PUMPED!! The left hander who had so many lifelines having been dropped by Phil "Party Pooper" Irish juggling behind the stumps was getting some vital runs for his team that put South Devon in the driving seat Enter Mark Davey and SWAMPI, who ripped through the South Devon middle order picking up 3 wickets each to send Wear to a wonderful win and put them right back in the title race.

The character and determination from everyone after drinks break was sensational and after Swampi picked up his first wicket for the Wear, everyone was buzzing in the field and great vocal work from the Nash and Heaver combination and also some great lines from Swampi in the huddle, lifted everyone

A 13point victory for Wear and Plymstock who were called off at Topsham St James has blown the title race wide open and makes the final game of the season against Plymstocl bigger than it already was. GO WEAR

MAN OF THE MATCH - Peter Darke - Dug in at a vital time and batted superbly on his return to the side.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH - Swampi, who was giving everyone a lesson in Indian language was superb with his swear words at the team huddles! Great work Swampi!

Kilmington Home - 28.6.08

HEAVER AND GERT GIVE WEAR AN AMAZING VICTORY

Line Up - Bovey(C),Heaver,Bates,Handford,Spragg,Liddon,M Jones,Sussex,Brook,Wakely,Langtry

Countess Wear won the toss and elected to field

Kilmington - 238 - 6 (46overs)

 Adam Brook -- 13 - 1 - 47 - 2

 Quinn Langtry -- 7 - 0 - 42 - 1

 Garry Spragg -- 11 - 1 - 45 - 0

 Mike Jones -- 6 - 0 - 30 - 1

 Phil Wakely -- 4 - 0 - 40 - 0

 Richard Bates -- 5 - 0 - 24 - 2

 Martin Bovey -- 1 - 0 - 11 - 0

Catches - Handford, 3

Countess Wear - 240 - 7 (39.3overs)

 Martin Bovey -- 5

 Jon Heaver -- 71

 Richard Bates -- 8

 Keith Handford -- 45

 Garry Spragg -- 20

 Mike Jones -- 12

 John Liddon -- 28*

 Quinn Langtry -- 4

 Adam Sussex -- 9*

Well Glastonbury week was here, Slow, Chans were seen disappearing in their caravan. Duncan took a wrong turning and ended up in France. Andy May was still wimping about a few stitches in his injured hand and Geraint attended a wedding ( fiver it will be a divorce within 3 years!! )

So would the Wear find eleven bodies to field against third place Kilmington and a notorious strong batting side. Keith Handford answered the call to take up his place behind the stumps and the long awaited return of vice skipper Gary Spragg was well welcomed. Gert and Sussex ( the Feniton Boys ) came in and also Whacker was back in the fold. We had a team!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So with a bit of a wagging tail, the skipper was not to confident of placing a large total on the board and had no hesitation fielding first. The plan was then to hang on for a losing draw.Always the positive skip!!

Adam Brook again bowling with pace took an early wicket although Quinn couldn't quite cope with the 20/20 umpiring stance of anything down leg was given a wide. With 8 wides in his first 3 over's it was time for a break. The opposition number 3 unfortunately came a cropper as he tried to take a single and suffered a painful back spasm and had to leave the arena. Spraggy then took up the challenge and it was if he had never been away. Although wicketless, he bowled with great accuracy and gave their umpire's arms a rest.

Runs came freely from the majority of bowlers on a flat wicket, quick outfit and those rabbits had moved the rope again!! Quinn came back and bowled from the other end and removed the dangerous Watts who had scored 71 when he was caught behind by Handford. Richard Bates came on and bowled well for his 2 for 24 off 5 over's. Brooky was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets and a tactical masterpiece was seen by the skipper and he came on for the last over to stem the flow of the runs being scored. Only 3 scoring shots were seen..........sadly a total of 11 was scored.

Then the best moment of the game, Pam had done roasties for teas!!!!!!!!!!!!

So with 238 on the board it was time to dig in. calculations had been done and 160 was the target to reach the losing draw. Knowing he had to bat through the skipper did well until he was yorked, cleaned up, call it what you want, in the 3rd over. He could depart to his tented village and join the kids. As he walked back he heard Jess say " oh Daddy!!!!" and started laughing. Does she not understand the seriousness of D Division East!!!

So it was down his fellow opener to dig in and take it easy. Ree Bates foolishly ran himself out going for a second run......he just made half way!! But Jon, in a rich vein of form, took control with some awesome batting and took the score to 109 off just 16 over's as he departed on 71 with 14 fours 86. Enter Keith Handford ( not one to hang around either ) and kept the momentum going and hit 1 six and 9 fours in his 45 and putt on 55 with Spraggy who scored 20. With Keith and Gary gone with the score on 172 for 5 off just 25 over's the game was finely balance, with the notorious tail.....would it wag??? Didn't it just!!! and the hero was the Gert man John Liddon with a superb 28not out and he had excellent support from Mike Jones and Quinn. Adam Sussex joined him at the wicket with 8 runs to win and 3 wickets remaining and the youngster pulled the winning boundary to reach 9 not out.

So the Wear had done it again. Against the odds secured another victory to remain top of the table. Once again the spirit couldn't be faulted. It was hard going for the bowlers on a flat wicket against some aggressive batting, but we stuck at it.

As for the batting well!!!! I cant remember a CWCC teams scoring 172 off 25 over's, with set up the basis for a further win. So well done to pinch hitter Heavs, and the work then carried on by the rest

CHAMPAGNE MOMENT OF THE DAY

You would think it would have to be Heavs, ( nominated by J Heaver ) but nah, it has to go to Gert to steering the team home aided by Suss.

HALF TERM REPORT

PLAYED 9 WON 4 WINNING DRAW 2 LOST 1 POSTPONED 2

Despite the Exmouth debacle, the team have fought back well and currently top by 7 points. The pleasing aspect is that 200+ runs have been scored in every match. Brookie has come on loads since last year and has taken the wickets he deserves. So can we stay there.....most definitely, providing we don't get complacent and availability of players remain over the next 2 months. Everyone one has chipped in and lets see if continue.

Should we have lost against Kentisbeare????? Dont ask me, ask the Chairman as he was skipper!!

Is there a better time for playing with the Wear.....i don't think so!!

Ivybridge Home - 29.6.08

SLOW NOT MISSED AS WEAR BATTER IVYBRIDGE

Line Up - Davey(C),Heaver,Griffin(wk),Wreyford,Liddon,Old,Hope,Nash,Brook,Monkley,Bovey

Countess Wear won toss and elected to field

Ivybridge - 72 all out (35.3overs)

BOWLING FIGURES

 Adam Brook -- 1wicket

 Adam Monkley -- 2wickets

 Martin Bovey -- 0wicket

 Adrian Nash -- 1wicket

 Paul Old -- 1wicket

 Mark Davey -- 4wickets

Countess Wear - 73 - 5 (17.4overs)

BATTING FIGURES

 Mark Griffin -- 0

 Jon Heaver -- 25

 John Liddon -- 0

 Matt Wreyford -- 4

 Paul Old -- 9

 Mark Davey -- 8*

 Adam Monkley -- 17*

Glastonbury hit the selection of Wear with skipper Phil Irish and Dave Harkness choosing Jay Z over Countess Wear. Not acceptable. Bringing in Martin Bovey and Matt Wreyford. Mark Davey who was skipper for the day had nominated Jon Heaver as his vice and having won the toss they elected to bowl on a very bowler friendly track. The two Adams and Steve (Brookies mate), opened superbly with Monkley bowling tight picking up 2 wickets, Brook picked one up at the end of his spell and was replaced by Nash who found a lovely area and bowled wonderfully for little reward, only taking one wicket. Martin Bovey done well in his first Sunday game for many years for no reward, but nothing compared to what skipper Mark Davey who bowled 6overs 4maidens 3runs for 4 wickets, should of had 5 if John "Assface" Liddon could catch. Paul came on for a tight 5 over spell in which he picked the final wicket to bowl what looked like a good Ivybridge batting line up for 72 in 35.4overs which is just over 2 an over which shows how well we fielded and bowled. Mark Griffin returned behind the stumps and kept very well conceding only two byes

Everyone tucked into teas, wonderfully made by the Liddon family. Hopey found it funny to fill Heaver and Gert's gloves with cocktail sausages, what a waste.

With such a small target Wear decided to give an opportunity to a few of the people who haven't batted much this season. Jon Heaver opened up with the out of sorts Mark Griffin, who was dismissed for a duck. Assface joined Heaver at the crease and he was following Griffo back for 0 as well. Joined then by youngster Matt Wreyford, Heaver took a pounding with the ball peppering him in all body parts. He was then bowled for 25 but with wear on 43 at the time the hard work had been done. The time Heaver was out he was the only batsman to score any runs of the bat. Wreyford was soon out for 4 and Colly followed for 9, but this only brought Nugget and Monkers to crease to smash the winning runs and get home quick with Davey hitting the winning runs with a 4.

Overall a fantastic performance by everyone, all round great effort. and a deserve victory. Well Done CWCC.

MAN OF THE MATCH - Mark Davey and Jon Heaver - Great joint effort in the captaincy. Davey bowled superbly and Heaver batted well setting up the victory for Wear. KOB Unit was well and truly on great form.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH - Nashy shout when Gert drooped the batsman for Nugs 5fer, saying "You got a face like an Ass" OR The spirited way the Wear let there batsman who was wrongly given out LBW, Heaver told umpire Alan Harley he heard an edge and let the batsman return. Good Work Wear!!!

Plymstock Away - 22.6.08

WEAR WOBBLE IN CHAMPIONSHIP CLASH DESPITE HEAVER AND HARKY SHINING

Line Up - Irish(C),Davey,Heaver,Griffin,Monkley,Hope,Harkness(wk),Brook,Nash,Liddon,Old

Plymstock won the toss and elected to bat

Plymstock - 189 all out (38overs)

 Adam Brook - 2wickets

 Adam Monkley - 0wickets

 Adrian Nash - 1wicket

 Mark Davey - 4wickets

 James Hope - 1wickets

 Paul Old - 2wickets

Countess Wear - 187 all out (40overs)

 Mark Davey -- 7

 Mark Griffin -- 7

 Jon Heaver -- 55

 Adam Monkley -- 19

 Dave Harkness -- 50*

 James Hope -- 5

 Phil Irish -- 7

 Adrian Nash -- 0

 Paul Old -- 1

 John Liddon -- 6

 Adam Brook -- 6

Wear travelled to the depths of Plymstock in this top of the table clash and having lost the toss, Philly said he would of had a bowl anyway. Adam Brook continued to bowl well and picked up a wicket with a ball that should have been dispatched for 4, only for Paul "Collingwood" Old to snuff it out the air with a tremendous one handed catch. With Monkers at the other end bowling No Ball after No Ball, he contributed the highest score for Plymstock with 40 EXTRAS!!!!!!! Could this prove costly?

Wear continued to battle and Adrian Nash, who's night out on Saturday would make a great storyline for Eastenders, picked up a wicket. Mark Davey, who donned the gloves before Harky turned up and to be honest did a pretty poor job, which we don't expect from our superstar, but he made up for his errors behind the stumps with 4 wickets in a wonderful spell of spin bowling. Hopey bowled very well in his 9overs, going for 13runs! New signing Paul Old showed what an all rounder he is picking up 2 wickets at the end.

Being set 190 for victory seemed to be a good days work for Wear and they sat down to a spectacular tea which was went down well for Heaver.

So the return of Mark "Monkey Head,Griffo,Spazpads,AHole,Jockstrap" Griffin at the top of the order, Wear looked to get off to a good start. Griffo forgot his jockstrap so had to tape his box to his boxers with batting tap and as no one had any scissors, Slow Mo decided to burn it off.

Griffo didn't last long and was gone for 7, bringing Jon Heaver to the crease who was promoted after his wonderful 51 at the top of the order yesterday. Joining his hero, Davey at the crease he continued his fine form with a well played 55 and despite losing Davey for 7, he was backed well by Monkers who soon followed Heaver for 19. Wear collapsed and lost Hope,5, Irish,7, and Nash for a Golden duck leaving it to Dave Harkness to try and salvage a win, he played superbly for his 50* and backed well by Gert who played well for his 6 and Adam "Chris Martin" Brook who scored 6 but was bowled off the last ball when needing 3 to win.

So, after a great performance to bowl out Plymstock for 189, it seemed that the extras given to them would prove costly and it did. Some great batting from Heaver and Harkness was in vain and Wear fell short by 2 runs. Still in with a shout of the title and Ivybridge next weekend is again a big game.

MAN OF THE MATCH - Jon Heaver and Dave Harkness - Joint award as Heaver's innings got Wear back in the game after a nervy start losing two wickets and Harky for his wonderful 50* and great work when he returned to his rightful place behind the stumps

MOMENT OF THE DAY - Paul's catch off the bowling of Brookie was awesome absolutely amazing, gave Wear a huge lift. Also Heaver and Harky innings were sublime.

Upottery Away - 21.6.08

HEAVER'S PROMOTION PROVES VITAL AS WEAR CLAIM WINNING DRAW

Line Up - Bovey(C),Heaver,Irish,Bates,May,Smith,Channing(wk),Heath,Brook,M Jones,Langtry

Upottery won the toss and elected to field

Countess Wear - 238 - 5 (46overs)]

 Martin Bovey -- 38

 Jon Heaver -- 51

 Phil Irish -- 9

 Andy May -- 32

 Duncan Smith -- 15

 Richard Bates -- 50*

 Steve Channing -- 16*

Upottey - 177 - 8 (46overs)

 Adam Brook -- 7 - 1 - 22 - 3

 Geraint Heath -- 8 - 2 - 34 - 0

 Quinn Langtry -- 4 - 2 - 7 - 0

 Mike Jones -- 13 - 1 - 65 - 2

 Martin Bovey -- 7 - 2 - 10 - 2

 Richard Bates -- 2 - 0 - 3 - 0

 Jon Heaver -- 3 - 0 - 17 - 0

 Phil Irish -- 2 - 0 - 11 - 0

Catches - M Jones,2,Irish
Stumpings - Channing,2

Well the Countess Wear 2nd X1 band wagon rolled into the misty doom and gloom of the stadia at Upottery. The hosts had the foresight of covering the wicket two days earlier, which left the pitch certainly playable although with a slightly damp outfield. The fears of seeing Ree Bates do another Asda trick as he did at Yarcombe was highly probably ( just thinking of that event has made me cry again!! )

So the toss was crucial. Could the skipper cope with the pressure, a skipper who always calls heads. Should he change his mind as he hasn't called right all season. In his head he was saying tails, tails, tails.......up went the coin, but all control went from his brain to his tongue and somehow the word 'heads' came out..............................bugger!!! Still it gave the lads time to rest their weary heads from the journey and erect the CWCC Beer and Cheese banner.

Had the skipper gone mad????? No, the bribe had worked and a new opening partner Mr Heaver was announced. And what a job the youngster did. Jon cracked 9 fours in his 51 against a useful opener attack which included Joyce from the 1st X1, who was taking advantage of his game being cancelled.

Wear got off to another solid opening start with 76 off 21 over's before Jon was given out LBW. Slow followed quickly for 9 who misjudge his forearm smash above his head.....ummmm, probably best left Slow!!

The skipper finally ran out of lives and was caught on 38 from just 84 balls.....his striking rate massively increasing from the previous week!!

Enter Andy May..........May and Small Pitch = Interesting times. Well it was for a while with 2 sixes and 3 fours before his missed a straight one. Enter Duncan Smith.......Smith and Small Pitch = Happy, cuts down the running!! Dunc was just getting into his stride, with a six, when, another straight ball was delivered.

Ree Bates was next onto the skating rink with the score on 149 for 4 with 12 over's remaining and produced one of his best knocks for Wear to see the score past 200. Ree hit 1 six, 1 five ( tree interfering the flight of ball whilst travelling over rope, local rule) and 3 fours. The rest were pick up by some great sprinting between the wickets assisted by the wily Steve Channing ( 16not out ). Ree hit a run of the penultimate ball to bring up his 50 and the score to 238.

So Wear kept up their record off scoring over 200 runs in each match this season. It was a decent total but gettable on the Upottery pitch.

A tight start was crucial...........and lets face it Brookie...............it was a nightmare!!! Struggling with the slope, struggling with 2 left handers, changing to around the wicket, then being warned by Herr Fernbank for running on the pitch all in the space of 2 over's!!! But after that, what a spell. Give Adam his due he kept at in true Wear style, and dismissed both left handed openers and the number 5 to finish his spell 3 for 22 off 7 over's. A great effort.

In between the number 3, Fensome tried to take on Quinn's arm from the boundary................not a chance!! Think we picked up there was a slight dispute between the two batsman discussing the merits of whether their was a run there or not!!

Upottery were reduced to 58 for 4 off 14 over's and from then were never in the hunt. Although bowling only 4 over's Quinn bowled with good pace and constantly beat the edge, as did Geraint. Time to take the pace off and the skipper brought himself to take 2 wickets and the welcome return of Mike Jones saw him also take a brace.

With the fading light the option of being back Brookie or Geraint was taking away included. 156 for 7 with 6 over's remaining the skip turned to the two spin queens of Heaver and Slow...................what a brave decision, but very foolish. The last over was given to Jones who picked up the a crucial bowling point as the 8th Uppottey wicket was claimed.

So 15 points claimed in a winning draw and better news was to follow as all other games were called off. The whole team performance could not be faulted this week, another 200+ score from a solid base and great contributions from players that didn't get a look in last week.

The fielding and atmosphere was vastly better than last week, ( perhaps going to bed before 5am helped ) or it could be that we field and concentrate better fielding second......just as well as i lost the toss really !!

So another crunch make next week against third place Kilmington.................how could anyone rather be at Glastonbury????

 CHAMPAGNE MOMENT OF THE DAY

Jon Heavers 50 ( nominated by J Heaver ) Ree Bates 50 ( nominated by Asda ) Brookies return from the dead with 3 wickets ( nominated by A Brook )

Andy May feigning injury so he called leave early to get to Club Rococo ( hope the stitches heal soon mate!!)

Nah, easy one this week......to the chap who took 23 over's last week to score 6 runs. His first 2 balls being square cut for 2 consecutive boundaries and having a strike rate of 400 at one stage of the game. Well done skipper!!!!

Cullompton Away - 14.6.08

WEAR RACE TO WIN OVER CULLY

Line Up - Bogue(C),Davey,Thompson,Hope,Nash,May,Harkness(wk),Pateman,Holland,Dias,Adams

Countess Wear won the toss and elected to field

Cullompton - 233 - 2 (46overs)

BOWLING FIGURES

 Steve Holland -- 11 - 1 - 63 - 1

 Kav Dias -- 7 - 0 - 36 - 0

 David Thompson -- 13 - 1 - 58 - 0

 Bob Adams -- 5 - 0 - 24 - 0

 Adrian Nash -- 6 - 0 - 33 - 0

 James Hope -- 4 - 1 - 9 - 1

Countess Wear - 234 - 1 (29.1overs)

BATTING FIGURES

 Mark Davey -- 106*

 David Thompson -- 68

 James Hope -- 25*

Wear arrived at Cullompton carrying a few tired bodies after the previous nights entertainment in London at the Coldplay concert. After winning the toss, JB had no hesitation in inserting Cully confident his side would chase a score down on a good looking pitch and quick outfield.

Wickets proved very hard to come by, with Wear only taking two in a competitive total of 233 set by the home side. Despite the disappointing looking wickets column all six bowlers used contributed to an excellent fielding performance, the only hiccup being Neil ‘Bambi’ Pateman deciding it would be easier to field on his backside!

A slight reworking of the batting order saw Nugs take to the field with DT as his opening partner. A steady, measured start saw Wear reach 45-0 after 10. Then the fireworks began! A superb partnership of 192 between DT (68) and Nugs (106*) raced along at 8 an over smashing boundaries to all parts. Bongo was also kept busy with extras (35) proving there is still life in those Montgomery Burns arms yet.

Congratulations must go to the in-form Davey who reached another chanceless ton at a run-a-ball pace, his second in three weeks. Although it wasn’t Loze that took the headlines as Indian paceman Sanjiv Shrivastav tore through the Wear batting line-up to claim figures of 6-16. Yelverton chose to bat first on a good wicket, although conditions also favoured the home side with the ball swinging and rain in the air. A great start saw Yelvy wobble at 6-2, Loze (49) then joined Brain (30) at the wicket to bat steadily and put on 89 for the third wicket. A costly drop by JB at slip when Loze was on single figures proved a large turning point in the game. A strong opening bowling performance from Dias and Holland was then backed up superbly by Owen Smith, who took 5 wickets to dismiss the Yelverton lower middle order. A tea-time total of 171-8 looked competitive but a target Wear were confident of tackling. This was soon to prove misguided as Shrivastav bowled both an economical and destructive spell to leave Wear reeling at 34-8. Wickets tumbled around Davey (11) as the Indian claim the big middle order wickets in successive overs. Finishing with figures of 12-7-16-6, the Yelverton strike bowler caused problems Wear batsman have not faced for many seasons. A spirited 9th wicket partnership between Dave Harness (20) and Owen Smith saved further embarrassment before Wear were put out of their misery on 61. Positives from the bowling performance against a long batting line-up but the Wear will have to apply more with the bat when they travel to Yelverton during mid-August.

Honiton Away - 24.5.08

THE HOLLAND,HOPE AND HARKY SHOW!

Line Up - Bogue(C),Davey,Thompson,Hope,Singh,Harkness(wk),Milford,Heaver,Darke,Holland,Smith

Countess Wear won toss and elected to field

Honiton - 233 - 9 (46overs)

BOWLING FIGURES

 James Hope -- 10 - 0 - 48 - 2

 Steve Holland -- 10 - 1 - 44 - 4

 Owen Smith -- 13 - 1 - 42 - 0

 David Thompson -- 12 - 1 - 63 - 2

 Martin Milford -- 1 - 0 - 16 - 0

Countess Wear - 237 - 3 (40.2overs)

BATTING FIGURES

 James Bogue -- 14

 David Thompson -- 20

 Gurpreet Singh -- 31

 James Hope -- 86*

 Dave Harkness -- 50*

Wear travelled to Mountbatten Park keen to renew rivalries with Honiton after a 3 year break. After winning the toss Bogue inserted Honiton on a hard looking track. Openers Tansley and Canniford got off to an electric start racing to 65 off 12 overs. The introduction of wily spinner Dave Thompson once again proved crucial as he nipped both openers. A breathtaking run-out followed to leave the game nicely poised at drinks with Town on 106-3. Hontion skipper Pete Matravers came out all guns blazing after the break and blazed a run-a-ball 76 included some hefty blows and lost balls. A fine comeback spell from Steve Holland coupled with nimble hands behind the stumps from Dave Harkness (3 stumpings) saw wickets tumble in the closing overs.

Honiton racked up a credible 232-9, but a total that didn’t daunt Wear given the excellent Mountbatten pitch. News at tea soon filtered through that Mark ‘sicknote’ Davey had sustained light bruising to his sucking thumb, leaving skipper Bogue to weigh up an alternative. Dave Thompson was keen to step up and provided stern opposition at the top of the order. Bogue (14), Thompson (20) and G-String (31) all made useful starts towards the hefty target when Hope and Harkness came together at 88-3. Harky provided great foil for Hopey in the early stages rotating the strike and keeping the scoreboard ticking at 5 an over. With 12 overs to go the onslaught began as Hope continued his impressive knock and Harkness joined in thrashing 4 boundaries in consecutive balls at one stage. The pair remained at the crease until the total was reached with a fine 6 from Hope who finished with 86*. The total of 232 was surpassed with 6 overs to go.

Highlight of the day had to be the camp personal celebration of his half century from Dave ‘The Finisher’ Harkness

NB: Following the game, the league confirmed Countess Wear fielded an ineligible player (P Darke) and will be deducted 10 points.

Exeter Civil Service Away - 10.5.08

DERBY WIN INSPIRED BY THE FOX

Line Up - Bogue(C),Davey,Loze,Hope,Singh,Harkness(wk),Pateman,Thompson,Dias,Holland,Smith

Countess Wear won toss and elected to field

Exeter Civil Service - 199-7(46overs)

BOWLING FIGURES

 James Hope -- 6 - 0 - 28 - 0

 Steve Holland -- 7 - 1 - 14 - 2

 Ian Loze -- 8 - 0 - 51 - 0

 Owen Smith -- 5 - 0 - 27 - 0

 David Thompson -- 9 - 1 - 31 - 4

 Kav Dias -- 11 - 1 - 48 - 1

Countess Wear - 203 - 4 (40.4overs)

BATTING FIGURES

 James Bogue -- 49

 Mark Davey -- 22

 Ian Loze -- 5

 James Hope -- 80*

 Gurpreet Singh -- 0

 Dave Harkness -- 25*

Countess Wear bounced back after the opening day disappointment with a well deserved win in the local derby match with Exeter Civil Service. JB won the toss and had no hesitation in deciding to bowl on a wicket that would get drier and easier to bat on throughout the day. Early wickets in an opening burst from Ssevo (2-14) gave the Wear a strong start. However a 3rd wicket 100 partnership meant Civil were only 2 down at drinks and Wear were facing a large total as the pitch became batsman friendly. Enter Dave Thompson who twirled his way to superb figures of 4-31 removing the Civil middle order. Wear looked to reduce the hosts to a score of around 160, however some late hefty blows in the direction of cow corner meant Civil raced to 199-7 from their allotted overs. Spending 46 overs in the scorching sun can often result in a slow start for the Wear after tea. Not today though, Nugs (22) and JB (49) put 40 on the board for starters at a healthy lick. Lozy came and went in what appears to be his last game for Wear this year due to personal commitments (we wish him well). Following last weeks duck on debut Hopey came to the wicket keen to avenge his disappointing opener. A sublime straight drive for a one-bounce four opened his account and he never looked back. An 80 run partnership with JB broke the back of the total when a lazy drive to long on sent the skipper packing. Wear wobbled slightly with the quick wicket of exciting Indian all-rounder Gurpreet Singh. Thankfully that was the last to fall with Dave ‘The Finisher’ Harkness (25*) supporting Hopey to a fine 80 not out to win the game with more than 5 overs to spare.

Eighteen points and the Wear are back in the mix.

Thoverton Home - 14.6.08

BLACKMORE BRINGS HOME THE BACON

Line Up - Bovey(C),Blackmore,Singh,Irish,Heaver,Channing(wk),Smith,Langtry,P Wakely,Milford,Heath

Countess Wear won the toss and elected to field

Thoverton - 201 - 9 (46overs)

BOWLING FIGURES

 Geraint Heath -- 6 - 0 - 29 - 0

 James Blackmore -- 10 - 1 - 48 - 1

 Quinn Langtry -- 3 - 0 - 17 - 0

 Phil Wakely -- 5 - 2 - 27 - 1

 Gerpreet Singh -- 13 - 4 - 38 - 4

 Martin Milford -- 9 - 0 - 37 - 3

Catches - J Heaver, J Blackmore, G Singh

Countess Wear - 202 - 0 (35.4overs)

BATTING FIGURES

 Martin Bovey -- 28*

 James Blackmore -- 144*

 EXTRAS -- 30

Well the pre-match outing to London went well, Coldplay were a little bit special, although Chris Martin exclusively advised the 2nd team skipper he wasnt available for the major event of the weekend and wouldn't be travelling back with us. More disaster was to follow as Jon Heaver picked up a mystery bug. As we landed in Exeter at 4am, the thought of driving straight to the ground for pre-match training was cancelled to allow time for Heavs to shake of the bug.

It had to happen!! The skipper forced their visiting skipper to call wrong and had no hesitation in fielding first with a strong batting line-up to chase a total.

Wear took the field with 9 players due to the work commitments of Gerprete and the custom lateness of Quinn meaning the opening attack had to be chance. Geraint showed glimpse of his Yelverton form and found some bounce in the wicket and James Blackmore proved an adequate replacement for Quinn taking the first wicket. At 69 for 1 it was time to introduce some slower bowling, only for Gerprete to bowl just a fast as anyone else but with great affect, taking a wicket in his first over and then on a hatrick in his fifth over. Phil wakely removed their dangerous opener and the wily Martin Milford bowled well at the end to take 3 for 37 off 9 overs, including a stunning catch from fit-again Heavs. Steve Channing again had a good game behind the stumps.

It was disappointing that the visitors were allowed to recover from 143 for 8 to pass the 200 mark, but perhaps the previous late nights events took their toll.

Well they say batting is all about partnerships. The nervy Mr Blackmore took full advantage of the advice and coaching from his skipper to record his second ton in Wear colours in just two games. A little bit more effort and confidence in his batting may see him making his debut for the First X1 by perhaps, 2012. It has to be said that the skipper was fully aware he was stuck on 6 for some time as the scoreboard passed 120 at drinks and took full advantage to accelerate to 7 from the first ball after the break. Again it was a honour to bat with James who hit one 6 and 25 fours as Wear reached their total with 10 overs to spare.

CHAMPAGNE MOMENT : Possibly seeing Mrs Channing back in the tea hut ( nominated by J Heaver ) M Boveys masterful innings ( nominated by M Bovey ) J Blackmore streaky innings ( Nominated by Danish Bacon ) but..........................nah it was the sight of Mr Slowmo Irish and their skipper Jock colliding in mid air resulting in Jock removing all three stumps from the ground.......touchdown!!!!!!!!
